"I was on the
Yosemite during 1953, 54 and 55. I was a hybrid Machinist's Mate on
the Yosemite. I worked in the machine shop while in port and in the
engine room while under way. Most of the time, we were moored at
Millville Landing, near Newport but did make a trip to Haiti, Cuba,
Key West and a few to New York. We also spent 4 or 5 months at the
Philadelphia Navy Yard during the winter of 1954-55. That was before
the trip to Haiti."

"...during 1953-54 when we were at the Philadelphia
Ship Yard, in dry dock, a couple of obvious changes were made. The
port holes at the stern into the aft sleeping quarters were added. The
boat deck had some cabins added. They were aluminum as opposed to all
the others that were steel. I can’t remember exactly how much area
they covered, I think forward of the forward stack on the boat deck.
Also, the mess hall was given square tables instead of long tables
with folding legs. The first class sleeping quarters were added."
