Extract from an eyewitness letter to Jerry McWaters - 18 NOV 2003
"... it took her 14 minutes to hit bottom .... She went bow up at 1533 and 1534 she was fully submerged. At 1548 we heard the last sound of the Yosemite as her hull gave in to the pressure of the water for the last time. It is hard to say what actually caused her to sink and eventually go belly up and show her keel but I can tell you that it took a lot to sink her. It was a mighty fine ship and I am glad that I got to know her because it introduced me to a lot of good people that I would have not met otherwise."
These are a few photos supplied by Jerry that were taken on 22 August 2003 of the Yosemite at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard at Portsmouth, VA. as she was being prepared for her final voyage.

In October, more photos were taken. These are links to some of those photos. If you would like to have the full size pictures and see more of them, contact Jerry at jerry@mcwaters.org for details.
