Ray Morales was one of the first people to report for duty on the
Yosemite. He got his orders in February of 1944 and when he got to Tampa
there were only a couple of guys there. One of them was a Shore Patrol and
he didn't think either of them had anything to do with the Yosemite. For
the first few days he just walked around the shipyard and watched them
work on the ship. As the days progressed, other guys started trickling in.
They all lived in a barracks until they could move aboard.
These are a few memories from that time!
