Hello Sir,
My name is Jason Laslie. My grandfather was on the USS Yosemite, but unfortunately died before I was born. I just found out that this was the ship he was posted on during his time in the Navy. I have a huge respect for all vets and am so proud that a member of my family was able to serve our country. I was curious to see if anyone remembers him and can tell me anything about him. His name was Charlie B Laslie Jr and he was a torpedo-man. My dad and I just discovered this site and I would love to find out more about him for both me and my dad.
My dad was 17 when my grandfather passed away from medical problems. I know my grandfather was on this ship from WWII through the Cuban missile crisis. If it is possible to pass this along to any of the crew members or post it on the site, it would mean the world to hear stories from crew members about a member of my family I know nothing about. Thanks for your time in reading this, and God bless for your service to our country.
Respectfully,
Jason Laslie
UpdateThe few extra things I was able to find out were that he was on the ship while it was out of Newport, RI most likely in the mid 50's. My dad was born there and remembers living in that area between 1952-56 which is when these photos were most likely taken.
I hope this helps give more information about his service.
Thanks a bunch, Jay

and Found!

Crewman Found
I looked up an old Boot Camp Buddy, & Shipmate of mine & Tommy "Charlie" Cavuoto's from The USS Yosemite; Gary Brown, from Clinton Mass. I called the number & left a massage. He called back & we began chatting about "The Good-Old Days."
I told him about The USS Yosemite Association, & he said he was going to look it up on The internet. I told him about the reunion "Tommy "Charlie" Cavuoto & I had; and that we have attended two USS Yosemite reunions together, thus far; and that we're planning to attending our upcoming reunion in Nashville! I invited Gary to join the USS Yosemite Association, and said I hope he might attend our Nashville reunion next year, too!
It was great talking with "Brownie!" He was a "Stand-up" guy; and a good friend. He was a Barber aboard The Yosemite; he also worked in the Laundry; when "Charlie" wasn't fixing the steam-lines, and everything else in there! ( I used to catch some cat-naps in the laundry on Sundays; so as not to be placed on some work detail when I didn't have liberty! Especially when the Officer's Wives came aboard for dinner! No small wonder I wasn't a 4.0 sailor, eh? Ha, ha, ha...)
Lost & Found another shipmate!
"Thank You God!"
